Klaas Verplancke was born in 1964 inZwevegem, Nederland.
He studied advertising graphics and photography at the Hoger Sint-Lucas Instituut in Ghent from 1982 to 1986. He started his professional career in advertising agencies and continued to do his illustrating after office hours. In 1990 he decided to become
a full-time illustrator.

Koji Suzuki

Koji Suzuki was born in 1948 in Shizuoka, Japan. Ever since holding his first exhibition on a street in Kabuki-cho, Shinjuku, in 1968, he has been active in a variety of genres including art, comics, picture books, mural paintings, posters, stage and costume design and art workshops for children. He is one of the most influential picture book artists currently in Japan and has published more than one hundred titles. He has received numerous awards such as the Shogakukan Cultural Prize in Publishing in 1987 for his picture book “Ensokun Kishani Noru” (Enso’s First Trip Alone) published by Fukuinkan Shoten, the 35th Kodansha Prize for “Obake doraibu” (Driving in Ghosts) in 2004, and the Japan Picture Book Prize for “Blackinder” in 2009.

Ľuboslav Paľo

ľuboslav Paľo was born in 1968 in Vranov nad Topľou, Slovakia. After completing his studies in 1998 at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (prof. Dušan Kállay), Paľo immediately departed for Paris. He continued his research at the Cité Internationale des Artes. Upon returning home, he dedicated himself to printmaking and illustration. Within his native Slovak milieu Paľo formed an innovative artist/author team, collaborating with writer and publisher Erik Groch. A new phase in his art career came with collaborations with foreign publishers, particularly with the Swiss publisher, Bohem Press.

Mako Taruishi

Mako Taruishi was born in 1952 in Chiagsaki in Kanagawa, Japan. She recalls a happy childhood spent playing on the beach. She studied Design at the Tama Art University and then worked at Sanrio. The first picture book that she illustrated was “Boku shigoto ni ikunda” (I will Go to Work) published by Fukuinkan Shoten in 1987 with a text by Eiko Kadono. Other titles are “Tsuki e miruku o torini itta neko” (The Cat that Went to Get Milk to the Moon) “Santa-san kara kita tegami” (A Letter from Santa) published by Fukuinkan Shoten. She uses crayon, pastel and watercolor in her illustrations. She is also active in stage art. In the year 2011, she designed the theater sets for "Peter and the Wolf " at the Kanagawa Art Festival.

Makoto Ueda

Makoto Ueda was born in 1973 in Shizuoka, Japan. He was awarded first prize at the 15th Edition of “The Choice” Competition in Illustration. His picturebook “Māgaretto to kurisumasu no okurimono” (Margaret and the Christmas Present) published by Akane Shobo was awarded the Japan Picture Book Prize. Other titles are “Majo no Deijī “ (Daisy the Witch) published by Nora Shoten and “Sketchbook” published by Goburin Shobo. He has illustrated “Ekaki no Ueda-san” (Mr.Ueda the Painter) written by Shinji Ishii and “Kuma no Atarimae” (The Bear Atarimae) written by Naoko Uwozumi and many other books.
